An 80-year-old South Carolina double-amputee has died from his injuries after he was dragged from his wheelchair and attacked by four dogs, authorities said Tuesday. Carlton Freeman of Harleyville was driving his motorized wheelchair on May 8 when he was attacked, said Maj. John Garrison, a spokesman for the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department. An incident report said Freeman told authorities that he was pulled from his wheelchair during the attack in the community about 50 miles northwest of Charleston. He said dogs were biting him and pulling on his clothes. Coroner Chris Nesbit said Tuesday that Freeman, who had both legs amputated at the knee from an injury years ago, died Sunday of the injuries in the dog attack. "Upon my examination of Mr. Freeman, it is a wonder that this gentleman was able to hang on as long as he did," Nesbit said in a statement. "He had bites and lacerations from his legs to the top of his head. This is very sad story, but even worse that Mr. Freeman was basically helpless to the attack, due to being a bi-lateral amputee." Garrison said that officers captured three of the four dogs. They have been taken to an animal shelter while deputies are still trying to locate the fourth. A police report said three of the dogs belonged to a woman in the neighborhood and there were traces of blood found on them. Authorities have not made any arrests. It's the second fatal dog mauling in the county in a little over a year. Please take the time to sign the Kennel Club's online petition to get the Dangerous Dogs Act changed to protect the dogs that haven't even done anything wrong. http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/repeal-and-replace-the-dangerous-dogs-act.html (Sorry for spelling mistake :-S) I think the authorities should be doing more to punish those who mistreat the dogs and train them as aggressive fighting or guard dogs, not the dogs. I also don't know why they immediately destroy a dog as it means they can't get an insight into why the dog is aggressive or what happened, for e.g. some dog illnesses can cause aggression. I do sympathize with victims of dog attacks, but also the dogs. I think more should be done to protect so called 'dangerous breeds'. It's individual cases, not breeds and it's the owners' fault. Dogs shouldn't be trained as fighting and aggressive guard dogs and should NEVER be left alone with young children or babies. Please support this campaign. Thank You

I have been thinking alot lately since hearing the latest news that Michael Vick has been approved for release to his Hampton home and could be out as soon as May 21st, 2009. Not even serving his full 23 months (which to me was nothing near what he deserve) sentence for Operating and Bankrolling "BAD NEWZ KENNELZ", which we learned in April 2007 was a very large dogfigthing operation. Yes he is only short by a mear 2 months but my feelings have not changed one bit since the day I saw and learned what horrors he inflicted on animals and not even being man enough to admit his involvement. To me it doesn't matter that he was a huge NFL star..It could have been anyone and my feelings would still be the same. It is the reality now that this COWARD may step foot on a football field again that makes this whole thing so unbelievable. Michael Vick did far more than "fight" dogs. He tortured them, maimed them, killed them, etc. He electrocuted them. He drowned them. He did even worse! He transported the dogs across State lines for the purpose of fighting them. He bankrolled and promoted ILLEGAL dogfights. This is a short list., Bottom line...he broke MANY laws. and NOW HE MAY BE BACK ON THE NFL FIELD???? Let's not forget to mention that he has yet to even say a whisper of an apology for what he did to those poor innocent dogs. I could go on for days about my feelings but instead I choose to put them into this video..I apologize in advance for anyone that I may offend but my feelings are my feelings and I've never been much on sugar coating the truth...
