World record and aviation milestone: The first ever remote-controlled HUMAN FLIGHT, achieved by two MODEL helis effortlessly lifting a grown-up person. Most people thought this was never possible and any such action had to end with injury or worse. However, one more time it has been proven that with both a solid project planning and an in-depth understanding of helicopter technology even such complex stunts can be performed safely. Models were two standard 700 size helis (rotor diameter 1.61 m, only 6.1 kg each!), all specs and details below. It took 4 months, many thousand Euros, HUGE logistics and countless test flights to achieve this milestone. Now, before anyone feels called to speak disrespectfully about SAFETY, TECH SPECS, etc. please check out the additional info below. This project was not done out of a whim - it's a solid team work! The Mil V-12 (also referred to as the Mi-12, NATO reporting name Homer) is the largest helicopter ever built. The name "Mi-12" would have been the name for the production helicopter. Since the V-12 never went into production and only two prototypes were built, the name "Mi-12" was never officially adopted. Development was the result of a need for a heavy lift helicopter capable of carrying major missile components and dropping them into silos without the benefit of road infrastructure.[clarification needed] Production began on the V-12 prototype in 1965 with the goal of lifting no less than 30,000 kg (~33 short tons). The first prototype made its first lift-off on 27 June 1967. After a few oscillations in close proximity to the ground the V-12 made a rough touchdown on one wheel, resulting in a burst tire and a bent wheel disk. Even though the damage was insignificant, it was reported in the Western press that the prototype had suffered severe damage, and even to this day the rumor persists that the prototype had crashed fatally. The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is an American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Its primary roles are troop movement, artillery emplacement and battlefield resupply. It has a wide loading ramp at the rear of the fuselage and three external-cargo hooks. With a top speed of 170 knots (196 mph, 315 km/h) the helicopter is faster than contemporary utility and attack helicopters of the 1960s. The CH-47 is among the heaviest lifting Western helicopters. Its name is from the Native American Chinook people. The Chinook was designed and initially produced by Boeing Vertol in the early 1960s; it is now produced by Boeing Rotorcraft Systems. It is one of the few aircraft of that era -- along with the fixed-wing Lockheed C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft -- that remain in production and front-line service, with over 1,179 built to date. The helicopter has been sold to 16 nations with the U.S. Army and the Royal Air Force (see Boeing Chinook (UK variants)) its largest users. The United States Army (USA) is the main branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven U.S. uniformed services. The modern army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War before the establishment of the United States. The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784 after the end of the Revolutionary War to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military services of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992, Boris Yeltsin signed a presidential decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the RSFSR under Russian control. The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the president of Russia. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'. The number of troops is specified by decree of the President of Russia. On 1 January 2008, a number of 2,019,629 units, including military of 1,134,800 units, was set. In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian Armed Forces numbered about 1,040,000 active troops and in the region of 2,035,000 reserves, (largely ex-conscripts) but a significant military reform is underway which will cut the number of active troops. Russia Listeni/ˈrʌʃə/ or /ˈrʊʃə/ (Russian: Россия, tr. Rossiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə] ( listen)), also officially known as the Russian Federation (Russian: Российская Федерация, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈrat͡sɨjə] ( listen)), is a country in northern Eurasia. It is a federal semi-presidential republic, comprising 83 federal subjects. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. It shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk, and the US state of Alaska across the Bering Strait. At 17,075,400 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. Russia is also the world's ninth most populous nation with 143 million people as of 2012.
Radio-controlled helicopters (also RC helicopters) are model aircraft which are distinct from RC airplanes because of the differences in construction, aerodynamics, and flight training. Several basic designs of RC helicopters exist, of which some (such as those with collective BOOK PROMOTION: MODEL AIRPLANE SECRETS CLICK HERE http://6d39f91ij18-jqaby0l9sbe8uf.hop.clickbank.net/ pitch, meaning blades which rotate on their longitudinal axis to vary or reverse lift so the pitch can be altered and can therefore change the angle of attack) are more maneuverable than others. The more maneuverable designs are often harder to fly, but benefit from greater aerobatic capabilities. Flight controls allow pilots to control the collective and throttle (usually linked together), the cyclic controls (pitch and roll), and the tail rotor (yaw). Controlling these in unison enables the helicopter to perform most of the same maneuvres as full-sized helicopters, such as hovering and backwards flight, and many that full-sized helicopters cannot, such as inverted flight (where collective pitch control provides negative blade pitch to hold heli up inverted, and pitch/yaw controls must be reversed by pilot). The various helicopter controls are effected by means of small servo motors, commonly known as servos. A piezoelectric gyroscope is typically used on the tail rotor (yaw) control to counter wind- and torque-reaction-induced tail movement. This "gyro" does not itself apply a mechanical force, but electronically adjusts the control signal to the tail rotor servo. The engines typically used to be methanol-powered two-stroke motors, but electric brushless motors combined with a high-performance lithium polymer battery (or lipo) are now more common and provide improved efficiency, performance and lifespan compared to brushed motors, while decreasing prices bring them within reach of hobbyists. Gasoline and jet turbine engines are also used. A helicopter is a type of rotorcraft in which lift and thrust are supplied by rotors. This allows the helicopter to take off and land vertically, to hover, and to fly forwards, backwards, and laterally. These attributes allow helicopters to be used in congested or isolated areas where fixed-wing aircraft would usually not be able to take off or land. The capability to hover efficiently for extended periods of time allows a helicopter to accomplish tasks that fixed-wing aircraft and other forms of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft cannot perform. The word helicopter is adapted from the French language hélicoptère, coined by Gustave de Ponton d'Amecourt in 1861, which originates from the Greek helix/helik- (ἕλιξ) = "twisted, curved" and pteron (πτερόν) = "wing". Nicknames used for helicopters include chopper, helo or whirlybird. Helicopters were developed and built during the first half-century of flight, with the Focke-Wulf Fw 61 being the first operational helicopter in 1936. Some helicopters reached limited production, but it was not until 1942 that a helicopter designed by Igor Sikorsky reached full-scale production, with 131 aircraft built. Though most earlier designs used more than one main rotor, it is the single main rotor with anti-torque tail rotor configuration that has become the most common helicopter configuration. Tandem rotor helicopters are also in widespread use due to their greater payload capacity. Quadrotor helicopters and other types of multicopter have been developed for specialized applications.
Lock n' Load with R. Lee Ermey is a television program on History that discussed the development of military weaponry throughout the centuries. It was hosted by R. Lee Ermey. In a typical episode, Ermey focused on one specific type of weapon or weapon system, presenting key advancements in its technology and demonstrating their use with the help of experts. In a holdover from his duties hosting Mail Call on the History Channel, he frequently added humor in the form of light-hearted drill instructor haranguing aimed at the viewer. He also displayed an eagerness to try out the episode's relevant weapons against a wide range of targets, particularly watermelons ("they taste better after being shot with a machine gun"), as well as glass bottles. The 13-episode series has been rerun semi-regularly since, with reruns currently airing on History 2. The pilot episode was produced by Simon J. Heath and edited by Simon Day (the lead singer of Australian punk band 'RatCat'). A military helicopter is a helicopter that is either specifically built or converted for use by military forces. A military helicopter's mission is a function of its design or conversion. The most common use of military helicopters is transport of troops, but transport helicopters can be modified or converted to perform other missions such as combat search and rescue (CSAR), medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), airborne command post, or even armed with weapons for attacking ground targets. Specialized military helicopters are intended to conduct specific missions. Examples of specialized military helicopters are attack helicopters, observation helicopters and anti-submarine warfare helicopters. Military helicopters play an integral part in the sea, land and air operations of modern militaries. Generally manufacturers will develop airframes in different weight/size classes which can be adapted to different roles through the installation of mission specific equipment. To minimise development costs the basic airframes can be stretched and shortened, be updated with new engines and electronics and have the entire mechanical and flight systems mated to new fuselages to create new aircraft. For example, the UH-1 has given rise to a number of derivatives through stretching and re-engining, including the AH-1. Modern helicopters have introduced modular systems which allow the same airframe to be configured for different roles, for example the EH-101 in Royal Navy service can be rapidly configured for ASW or transport missions in hours. To at the same time retain flexibility and limit costs, it is possible to fit an airframe for but not with a system, for example in the US Army's AH-64D variants are all fitted to be able to take the Longbow radar system, but not enough sets have been brought to equip the whole force. The systems can be fitted to only those airframes that need it, or when finances allow the purchase of enough units.
The CH-47 Chinook helicopter has been around for nearly 50 years, but 50 years later it is still an amazing aircraft. Here are a few of the things that make it amazing: Twin 60 foot rotors give the helicopter amazing lift -- it can haul up to 28,000 pounds of cargo either inside or attached to exterior hooks. It can carry up to 33 seated passengers, 37 people total with crew. Given it's cargo rating, you could cram on a lot more people. It has two gas turbine engines producing nearly 4,000 horsepower to drive the rotors. Just over 1,000 gallons of fuel on board give it a range of over 400 miles. Lack of a tail rotor makes it more stable in windy conditions and also allows for a rear cargo ramp. The rear cargo ramp makes certain things possible that would be impossible for just about any other aircraft. For example, the CH-47 can hover over water and a boat can drive right in for water extraction, like this:

(C) COPYRIGHT STRICTLY ENFORCED*** Whist erecting a seven story high structure to be used as a Christmas tree, the helicopters rotor struck a cable causing the aircraft to crash to the ground. The Pilot was helped from the crumpled wreckage with minor injuries. Both of my Panasonic P2HD camera's were recording at the same time, even though I go to reposition myself because I didn't like the look of the cable near the rotor, my camera I am carrying is still recording. My other static wide view camera caught me walking across the frame, you can see the guy tug on the cable just as I go past him. After the impact, and seeing that the wreck had not burst in to flames, I'm the guy in the yellow hi-vis, white hat and blue jeans that hops in to the cab to help get the unconscious pilot out along with the guy who originally pulled on the cable. I have removed the "comments" option as some people have been posting ridiculous messages, this was all just an accident, and by the grace of God, no one was badly injured. *** Maiden flight of 2-seater 2013: http://youtu.be/tNulEa8LTHI *** On October 21st, 2011, Thomas Senkel of e-volo made the first manned flight with an electric multicopter (VTOL), the so called volocopter VC1, at an airstrip in the southwest of Germany. The flight lasted 90 seconds, after which the constructor and test pilot stated: "The flight characteristics are good natured. Without any steering input it would just hover there on the spot". This could be the future of aviation, piloting a vehicle as easy as a car. More information: http://www.e-volo.com Our latest video: http://youtu.be/tNulEa8LTHI

This is the maiden flight of what is probably the largest jet-powered scale model of a Mig 25. At 4.2 meters long and weighing in at 42Kg, this is a huge model, skillfully test-flown by 18-year-old Clinton on the first day of the 2011 ANZAC jet rally in Tokoroa New Zealand. Unfortunately, the second flight did not go as well -- video of that is coming. Check my channel for more great RC model and jet videos.

Very stable and fast, looks great, mostly metal frame. It has fans on either side that control left right roll, a fan on the rear that controls forward reverse motion, and coaxial rotors that keep it stable and control yaw, it's a lot of fun, and it's very precise, but it is mode 4, meaning throttle and roll are on the left stick and spin and forward reverse are on the right stick, if you've been flying mode 2 for a long time it'll take a little getting used to, but if you've only flown 3 channel helicopters it wont be any different then the controls your used to.
This very nice, and very expensive turbine-powered RC model helicopter was flown for the first time at the November 2010 Jet meeting in Tokoroa. After some tweaking and trimming, it flew very well.

Watch as the British pilot (Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune) of this Chinook takes multiple hits, including a glancing shot to his own head, on a troop extraction run in Afghanistan. This is the definition of a hero. The Chinook took multiple hits severing a hydraulic line, raking the fuselage and windshield with rounds. Watch as the pilot takes a glancing ricochet to his left temple and manages to keep his wits about him, saying "Ok chaps, just to let you know I took a round through my front windscreen which came up and hit me on the head." Even the Sun reporter does well to keep his composure during the report, as he himself is faced with the very real possibility of a crash and death. source: Discovery Channel HD *DISCLAIMER* Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. On 23 September 1994, 90-00220 was lost in an accident 35 Miles east of McCall, Idaho. While attempting to land on an 11 degree upslope along a ridge line, the aircraft slid down slope and the forward rotor blades struck the ground. The cabin sustained multiple blade strikes, severing the drive train and the flight control tubes. The aft portion of the aircraft rotated over the nose, and the aircraft came to rest on its right side. The aircraft was totally destroyed. One crewmember was fatally injured and three crewmembers suffered minor injuries
