Alfred Schreyer, urodzony 8 maja 1922 r. w Drohobyczu. Muzyk, ostatni żydowski uczeń Brunona Schulza mieszkający w Drohobyczu. Więzień trzech obozów koncentracyjnych. Stały uczestnik Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Brunona Schulza. Gra na skrzypcach i śpiewa po polsku, ukraińsku, jidysz, rosyjsku i niemiecku. Występował wraz ze swym zespołem, gorąco witany na scenach Polski, Ukrainy, Niemiec, a ostatnio Austrii i Anglii. Filmik powstał na pamiątkę 90 urodzin Alfreda Schreyera. Drohobycz. Atrakcje turystyczne Niemal wszystkie atrakcje turystyczne znajdują się w centrum miasta, które wyznacza sporej wielkości Rynek, na środku którego stoi ratusz. Nieopodal rynku znajduje się najważniejszy zabytek architektoniczny Drohobycza - kościół św. Bartłomieja. Został on zbudowany w okresie 1392-1445. Kościół przez długie lata pełnił, oprócz sakralnych, także funkcję obronną, był on otoczony wałem ziemnym i zapewniał mieszkańcom schronienie w czasie wojen. Bardzo cenne są dwie drewniane cerkwie położone niedaleko od Rynku. Pierwsza z nich, św. Jerzego wybudowana została w XV w., lecz przeniesiona do Drohobycza została znacznie później. Druga - Podwyższenia Krzyża zbudowana została w XVI w. Inną atrakcją turystyczną Drohobycza jest Synagoga, która przypomina o żydowskiej ludności zamieszkującej Drohobycz. Większość turystów przyjeżdżających do Drohobycza odwiedza także dom Bruno Schulza oraz miejsca związane z tym artystą. Niestety, kilka lat temu Izraelskie służby specjalne zorganizowały bezprecedensową akcję wywozu fresk ze ścian domu Schulza. Zostały one potajemnie przewiezione do Izraela i znajdują się w jednym z tamtejszych muzeów. Miłych wrażeń dostarczyć może także spacer po zabytkowych uliczkach Drohobycza. Joseph undertakes a strange journey through the many rooms of the sanatorium, each of which conjures worlds composed of his memories, dreams and nightmares. Adapted from a collection of short stories by Polish-Jewish writer Bruno Schulz, The Hourglass Sanatorium dispenses with traditional narrative, fashioning an audiovisual mosaic that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. As in The Saragossa Manuscript, Wojciech Has fashions a cinematic universe composed with byzantine sets, hallucinatory images and a gallery of grotesque characters. The Last Jew from Drohobych is the story of Alfred Schreyer - in his own words - the only surviving pre-WWII Jewish resident in this Western Ukraine town. In the 1930s, Schreyer was a student of the eminent Polish writer, Bruno Schulz. During the Nazi occupation he survived forced labor and concentration camps. He returned home -- after the war -- alone. Schreyer became a singer and violinist in a local Cinema Lobby Orchestra, which was -- until 1963 -- a truly unique Soviet tradition in cinema culture. Today, Alfred Schreyer is living history; his life story chronicles a century in Drohobych caught between tragedy and resilience.
